This is Week 9 of Drone Tuesday at 360PSA, where we discuss the implications of drones for the private security industry.

I have been stressing upon the importance for private security professionals to learn about drones for quite some time now.

Much before the recent conflict added the word "drone" to everybody's vocabulary.

So, a natural question to ask is - where does one actually start from?

If you're serious about integrating drones into your private security operations, you need to start with the basics.

And the most basic, yet most ignored, starting point is this:

Drone Rules

In India, drone operations are governed by the Drone Rules 2021, and trust me, they’re not just for geeks.

If you want to operate drones commercially — even for surveillance or emergency response — you need to understand things like:

- What is NPNT?

- What’s the difference between micro, small, and medium drones?

- When do you need a Remote Pilot Certificate?

- What are the Green, Yellow, and Red zones — and how do they affect where you can fly?

- What’s the penalty for flying without a UIN or required permissions?

And many more fundamentals to have absolute clarity on.

And these aren’t just bureaucratic details.

They’re your legal foundation — the difference between professional and amateur.

In a time where clients are looking for smarter, tech-enabled security partners, you can not be the one saying,

"I didn’t know that rule applied to us too…”

This is the first step.

- Not flight time.

- Not payloads.

- Not cameras.

Rules first. Operations second.

So, go through the drone rules 👇 and then let's take the discussion forward on how you can integrate drone security services in your offerings.

By the way, Delhi Police is doubling down on its drone capabilities—it plans to buy 32 AI-powered surveillance drones in phase 1 and up to 100 drones in total. The drones are expected to cost ₹30 Lakhs each.

The point is that the drone security space is heating up - do what you must to ensure that you are not left behind!
